Before you pay: the checklist

Three words to remember: Stop · Check · Confirm. Stop before any money moves, check the agent against the official register yourself, and confirm the job in writing. Tick every box below — if even one fails, do not pay.

1Verify the licence, not the claim

  • Ask for the agent’s RA licence or registration number in writing. A real agent gives it without hesitation.
  • Look the number up yourself on the official eMigrate register — do not accept a certificate photo as proof.
  • Check the status is currently valid, not just that the name appears. A licence can be suspended or cancelled while old certificates still circulate.
  • Make sure the name on the register exactly matches the office you are dealing with — fraudsters borrow similar names.

2Verify the job before the fee

  • Get the job offer in writing: employer name, country, role, salary, and working hours.
  • Confirm the visa type matches the job. A visit or tourist visa is never a work visa — this is the most common trap.
  • Be suspicious of any offer that is far above normal salary for the role, or that must be accepted "today".

3Pay safely or not at all

  • Never pay in cash, and never to a personal UPI or personal bank account. Pay only to an account in the agency’s registered name.
  • Service charges are capped by law — ask the agent to show you the current legal cap and the fee breakdown before paying.
  • Take a receipt with the agency name, registration number, amount, date, and what the payment is for.
  • Never hand over your passport for "safe keeping". No agent or employer has the right to hold it.

4If any box above fails

  • Stop. Do not pay, and do not hand over documents.
  • Call the NORKA 24×7 helpline 1800 425 3939 (from abroad: +91 8802 012345) for free guidance.
  • Already paid? Keep every receipt, chat, and ad — then read our guide on what to do next, and report the agent so the next family is warned.
